This time last year we sold our home and began the process of building and down sizing. Nearly ten months later, we are still finishing the final phase and there is a lot more work ahead.
Living in a home during construction is like camping. You learn to live with just the essentials. As we bring items in from storage, I find myself carefully selecting what will come in .. and which items will not. Next I feel the need to freshen and update my home and being on a limited budget has caused me to rethink how I shop.
I have a stash of linens and dishes that are used for special occasions, but today I’m talking about those items we tend to use daily. Day to day items are those which are quickly tossed in the sink or laundry and often have to wait until I can get to them.
It feels so good to open a drawer and to see it is not jammed with dishes!
I use the Apilco line and they’ve held up very well. I’ve added a few gray pieces thrown in for variation. These are also a great option and are more budget friendly. Also included are some fun breakfast bowls. West Elm has some fun options.
I’m thinking about this color combination for Easter.
I am one of those people that uses linen even when company is not coming over. Iron them? ..not for a casual dinner. If you are watching your budget, here is an option and Pottery Barn has a nice selection. I have these and they stand up well to lots of washing. After using, I wash treat the stains with this bar of soap and then I toss them in the laundry.
To reduce the chances of etching on my marble counters I keep absorbent towels close by and use cutting boards for food prep. Cotton bar towels (love these! ) are perfect for absorbing liquid and I use linens for drying glasses and such.
Here are a few more of my current spring favorites!
