Today I’m sharing an easy, breezy summer look that is perfect for the warmer days ahead. Seattle just about set a record high of almost 90 degrees yesterday! I usually get up early, open all the windows to let the cool air in, and keep my ceiling fans going which we decided needed to go in each room when we designed our home. There usually isn’t a need for air conditioning and if you have circulation of air in the house, it’s usually tolerable.
As a rule, women of a certain age are supposed to follow style rules. I believe rules are rules and there are always exceptions. What we wear depends on many factors including body type, life style, career, and climate in which we live.
I do not have extensions and I don’t plan on cutting my hair above my shoulders although I am scheduled for a cut this week and it will be shortened up a bit. Long hair is a challenge as we reach a certain age and a healthy diet coupled with excellent hair products and trying to minimize “highlight” treatments is the way to go.
Dresses, above or below the knee? My work attire is to the knee or below. Weekend time is a relaxed time and I like the change things up and have fun with fashion. If I wear something shorter on the leg I cover up top. If I wear a sexy top, the lower half is not a revealing. Soft silky tops or cashmere are the best. ( A little BRONZER on the legs works wonders;)
I carry a hat around to protect my skin and hair during the summer months. Yes, it does flatten the hair but that’s okay. Like the skin, hair is sensitive to heat and UV exposure. I tend to take it on and off, just using it as needed (kinda like you would an umbrella;).
Do heels hurt your feet? If they do, then a wedge, kitten heel, or flat is a better option. No judgment one way or the other.
I like to wear a wedge or heel to the office and on off duty days. Shoe quality is important so I pay extra for a well made shoe like these , and I take care to walk carefully and watch my posture. A good platform built into the front part of the shoe is sometimes helpful.
Maintaining a healthy, toned body is worth the effort. I enjoy exercise and eating healthy so I am fortunate that way. I don’t believe food deprivation works over time so I choose to eat everything in moderation. If you’ve been following me on Instagram you know I do have a sweet tooth and make chocolate cookies or brownies almost every weekend.
As we mature our body require more exercise and a slight reduction in calories so we need to make every bit count and watch our portions. Years ago when I was a Childbirth Instructor I used to say the same thing to my expectant mothers .. “make every bite count” .. funny how things change over time. I believe restrictive “diets” don’t generally work and that the low calories end up doing more harm than good. It’s best to consider permanent life style changes to give you the best chance at reaching your goals.
I’ve had a few inquiries about my photos. At this point, I have yet to use a professional photographer. My photos are literally snap shots that my husband takes in his free time (which means “I have about ten minutes” ) .
Today I’m wearing a Current Elliot dress (similar here and it’s on sale for 69.00) with a denim shirt from Ralph Lauren. Both are super comfy for the warmer months ahead. I like totes for summer months because we travel and are more spontaneous so the extra space comes in handy. Tory Burch has some pretty options this season and the price is right. There are also multiple color and pattern options. Mine is a gray color and will go with anything. The totes are available in patterns, blue, and pink so there is something for everyone. This one from Kate Spade is also lovely and a gorgeous color.
I’ll be packing a few hats for some warm weather trips coming up and this is one of my new finds. The Panama style is flattering and really light weight.
