With our busy schedules and desire to make healthier changes moving forward, I feel some relief in knowing I can throw my favorite beauty foods in a blender and have a meal on the run (the ultimate fast food!). The Vitamix is a must in every kitchen! I use mine daily for smoothies and to blend or puree soups.
There are smoothie recipes everywhere so the best way to start and to just dive right in a try one that looks good. The key is to find a few basic ingredients that you enjoy and then begin to add or substitute other ingredients. Start with a liquid of some sort. I like coconut water as it is full of potassium and hydrating post work out. Next add one or two types of fruit, something green, a fat (avocado or coconut oil), and then a few pieces of cilantro or parsley.
The recipe following is really tasty. If you’d like to add protein powder, wheat germ, and the like, go for it!
Green Beauty Smoothie
- 8 ounces water (coconut or almond is my favorite)
- a few pieces of cut pineapple
- 1 large handful of spinach (you may also add kale or a mix of both)
- 2 tsp coconut oil, almond butter, or 1/2 small avocado (yum!)
- 1/3 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 small or 1/2 banana
Blend … and serve immediately. Makes one smoothie!
For your workout:
Exercise is essential for both our physical and mental well-being. To make it easier to adhere to a healthier lifestyle it’s important to find something that is realistic for you. Well-intended individuals hit the gym strong in January and by March, attendance goes down. Starting an intense exercise regime when you aren’t accustomed to it is like going on a crash diet. It is tough to maintain and isn’t healthy.. or in the case of exercise, may increase your risk for injury. If you’ve been following my blog you know how much I enjoy the outdoors! Getting outside and taking a walk is the BEST way to start. I take my pup Layla and try to get a girlfriend to join me. Group exercise classes are also fun and I enjoy the female comradery;)
Attractive and well made exercise gear is important. I am currently wearing these mesh sneakers (if you follow me on Snap..@prettypetals4 I had them on this today!). I found these this morning on a great sale so I bought them for the springtime. If you enjoy gym classes, slides like these are great for showering or if you are like me, you sometimes find yourself doing errands in sweaty clothes (the worst thing to do!) and if that’s the case, try these workout swipes! You can use them on areas prone to breakouts post exercise. They will help reduce pore clogging bacteria without irritating the skin and are enriched with lactic acid and essential oils so they are great for keeping the skin soft and smooth. I like the fresh mint and cucumber fragrance! For the cold days ahead, I like these leggings and last but not least, don’t forget to hydrate! The BKR bottles are my favorite because they wash like a drinking glass so you don’t get any lingering tastes. Mine is the color cupcake;)
